Joe Nerren
Born in 1931 in Lufkin, Texas, Joe began playing piano by ear at the age of 4. Seventy-seven years later he’s still at it. Joe’s many experiences include playing with the Dow Chemical Dance Band at 15, the all-Houston High School Dance Band at 16, and being awarded a scholarship to Sam Houston State and the University of Houston with the Ed Gerlac Band at 17. He studied concert piano with master pianist Pat Guiterrez for 4 years, while performing as a professional musician in Houston, TX. – He became the pianist/arranger with the Air Force Band of the Southwest and pianist-vibraphonist writer/arranger with the “Crew Chiefs”, a small group that was part of the Air Force Band in Washington, D.C. from 1953-1955. From 1955-1956 Joe was the pianist with the “Airmen of Note”, this being the Official “Glen Miller” Air Force Dance Band, Washington D.C. Joe has traveled and played with the Bob Hope, Steve Allen, Arthur Godfrey, and Jimmy Stewart shows plus numerous shows on NBC, CBS, and others. Following his exit from the air force Joe became a band leader in Houston, TX, and staff pianist with KHOU-TV – along with other shows on KPRC-TV and ABC channel 13, which involved playing with Ann Margaret, Pete Fountain and others. After many fun years as a Houston-Galveston musician, Joe moved back to Lufkin, TX to care for his family and study computerized music. He now plays with the Angelina Junior College Dance Band, the Golden Guyz, and various charity functions - while producing his own CDs in his music studio. He thanks the Lord for allowing him to enjoy a life full of music!
